JonO-- How does the EC2 Cloud work?

PS: love LOVE the idea of the icons... except what would you do for the random places that people leave walls? A generic "other" icon? The city wall would work pretty well as long as it didn't turn into a free for all "chat room" like the infinity wall was.

Have you considered moving it into the EC2 cloud? I don't know what your bandwidth costs are but EC2 has given people some very serious savings.

great!

I have an idea for the app: icons! a smal icon before the wall name. For example a resturant icon, theature icon tec tec (all kinds of things). That would boost the GUI a little and it would be nice to know what kind of wall it is. Also please implement maps! It would be great if you could move a pin to get the exact location of the wall! And radius of the wall would be nice to. Some walls chould be bigger than others.

City walls would be awsome to! If you are in for example New York, the app knows you are in new york and adds a New York wall. The NY wall can be accessed from anywhere in new york.

I'm so glad this is something that you've taken seriously. It's great to know that things are safe and sound. Good job!

The only data unique to the production server is the database. The server itself uses redundant network attached storage and can tolerate quite a bit of disk failure. The database is backed up every hour to two remote locations on each end of the country. It was a priority to make sure the data was safe from day one.

The server itself does not have a failover option, as we witnessed today. If growth continues at its current rate, I have a couple of hosts in mind that we will move to that will allow Graffitio to scale to handle any amount of traffic as well as provide redundancy for higher uptimes.

I presume you have some form of disaster recovery in the event of HD failure, hack or natural disaster? Would be sad to learn there isn't a backup process in place I'd you should ever have a catastrophic failure. I'm not sure if I could backtrack all my old entries and locations.
